Sculpting Practice

Posted by Twig P on Thursday, May 20, 2010, In : 3D work
The last few days have been a little busy, so I really have not really worked on anything major. I have found a program to generate planetary textures and played with it just a bit. That can be discussed in the forums.
Yesterday I got my wife's old tablet out and started using it in blender; First I started with the grease pencil and while that is an interesting tool,  I started using the sculpting tools with it. Today I decided to use the tablet for all my work in Blender today, this...

Void Stamp

Posted by Twig P on Thursday, May 13, 2010, In : 3D work
This took about 5 min. to build and texture. There was no reason behind creating this one, it just kind of showed up while I was listening to T.G.R. . With close to a 5,500 poly count for the rendered image, I can safely say that it is one of the smaller objects that I have created on  a whim.

S.U.D.-4

Posted by Twig P on Wednesday, May 12, 2010, In : Informative
Alright, so I just checked it out and  some where in all the attempts and trials I managed to get it right. I am talking about the ability to add comments to the blogs. I posted a comment on SUD-3 simply because I wanted to keep the testing, if it worked, in the informational areas.
So the inclusion of the Forum is a bit redundant at this point however I will keep it running as it has become part of my daily routine. I log onto my computer and let every thing start up, then it is on t...

Dark Alley

Posted by Twig P on Tuesday, May 11, 2010, In : 3D work
After the demise of the Fluids simulation of last night, I decided to try to recreate a Particle fire with a bit of a scene wrapped around it. Unfortunatly I for got to apply any nodes to the process before building the scene, so any thing that I did attempt to apply was also applied to the entire structure of the render.
This was also a test of my own memory retention as I did not use any tutorials as reference while constructing it. I missed something some where, in the particle fire...

The Night of the Epic Fail...

Posted by Twig P on Monday, May 10, 2010, In : 3D work
Alright, so I have showed you a still image of fire using a particle system with out nodes. I thought that while I was up all night anyway I would give an actual animation a go. I decided on a fluid system this time as I have already done fire and know that Nodes will make Blender crash on my computer. This was going to be as basic as it gets, a nice sized domain with a icosphere set to 4, then I added an obstacle in the form of a cone. Like I said very basic, I didn't do anything more to t...

S.U.D.-3

Posted by Twig P on Friday, May 7, 2010, In : Informative
Here is the latest news from the Cockatrice, I have updated the Forums after an Hour nap. So for those of you keeping score I have managed to sleep some where in the proximity of eight hours in the past three days. I know it is not good for me, yes I saw the article in the news about less sleep linked to early death. The good news for you is, there are now more topics to talk about, the site it's self looks just a bit cleaner, and you know that there is a good chance that I will be on top...

Image Update

Posted by Twig P on Friday, May 7, 2010, In : 3D work
I decided that all the descriptions laid out beside the images in the gallery simply did not look very good, and I have already made it a regular occurrence to add an entry with a description about the image, what brought it about, and what I went through to achieve the end result. So why not remove the rather redundant descriptions from the Gallery and simply catch the Blog entries up to date.

"The River of Tears" - I really have no idea where the Title came from, but the image it's self...

"The Daggers of Aggravation"

Posted by Twig P on Friday, May 7, 2010, In : 3D work
To be perfectly honest, another friend of mind wanted to know what kind of blade work I was capable of. The dagger it's self took no more than Thirty(30) minutes to make and texture. I have spent a few years as a weapons/blade smith while I was also holding a successful job as a Farrier. Have to do some thing with all the old shoes...
At any rate the aggravation came into play with the scene, that alone took nearly two hours. Mostly it was my own compulsive grasp for perceptive perfection...

The Challenge...

Posted by Twig P on Thursday, May 6, 2010, In : 3D work
So here is how it happened. I was talking to Ruelle last night and she told me that I should try and model with very few poly count. It was suggested that I keep the count under 50. So I started with a cube, and subdivided. Cut it in half and added some modifiers, Mirror(x), Sub Serf(1;2), Smooth(1). I managed to keep lost it some where around the ears and before the the eyes, when I checked the count it was around 50 already with mirror not applied. I decided to keep going instead of limitin...

The Big Ashtray

Posted by Twig P on Sunday, May 2, 2010, In : 3D work
While I do not know the count off the top of my head, the model "Big Ashtray" holds a bit over 60k Faces. Again don't hold me to that number, I just make the mesh...
Also while I know it took in the range of 2-3 hours, including coffee breaks and dinner, to complete. I do not think it was much more than One and a half Hours to complete. I Downloaded a Stop watch program for the very reason and what Happens? I forget to use it... Oh well, there is always the next piece.

I will answer all questions as soon as possible. I will also be looking into adding Forum at a latter date.
